I must admit, I’m not really big on long lists of accomplishments, positions and titles. That said, for those who do not know me here is the synopsis:
I grew up in Little Rock where I attended elementary thru high school, graduated from Uof A Fayetteville and spent the majority of my adult life in our family office products business, Dailey’s Office Furniture Co. My dad, Dalton Dailey, encouraged me to be community involved . To that end I volunteered for numerous civic organizations and in 1975 took volunteering to a new level by running for political office. Subsequently, I served twenty plus years as an elected official, fourteen of those as Mayor of Little Rock from 1993-2006.
My list continues with such past and present roles as President of the National Office Products Association, President of the Arkansas Municipal League, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the National League of Cities, Chair of the FCC Intergovernmental Advisory Committee, Member Arkansas Broadband Council and Chair of Little Rock’s Airport Commission, and member of the Arkansas State Parks, Recreation and Travel Commission and Arkansas Tourism Director.
Back in the private sector, I am VP of Governmental Development with Kelley Commercial Partners Real Estate where my local government experience has me now representing cities around Arkansas with Retail Business Development, Economic Development, Project management and other Municipal issues.
I’ve been married for over four decades, have four grown children and six grandchildren. I love the outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking and sightseeing.
This blog is my attempt to assimilate my thoughts for a possible memoir as well as a way to share with others Trails Tributes and Thoughts. The name “Last Pair of Boots” came to me when my ten year old boots broke down and it occurred to me that at my age the new pair of boots might be my last pair. Metaphorically my boots represent the trails and travels of life, the tributes will allow me to recognize and solicit nominations for “local hero status” and the thoughts simply allow me to reflect, pontificate and share whatever is left.
Thank You,
Jim Dailey
Jim – I really like and identify with the heart-felt sentiment in your summary “About Mayor Jim” above. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife at the International Trail Symposium in Portland and my business partner Rick and I hope we can develop a long lasting relationship with you throughout your “last pair of boots” and beyond. No question about it, you’ve got more than a last pair in you!
Here’s to new trails and travels of life…
Best,
Ben
